Godafoss in Icelandic translates to “waterfall of the gods.” It is indeed one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland and falls from a height of 12 meters over a width of 30 meters. While the waterfall in itself is a beauty to witness, photographer Serena Ho was able to capture something more:
Ho shot the photo with her Canon 5DS R and Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art lens. The image is a 6-second exposure taken at f/2.2, and ISO 800.
If you happened to miss the aurora borealis in the image you might be surprised to know that the image was taken at night. Don’t be fooled by the rainbow either. It is actually a moon bow. As the photographer shared, the image was taken on a bright moonlight.
“There was actually an incredibly bright full moon that night, right behind me and slightly to my left which illuminated the foreground and made it much easier to take this exposure. I kinda wish I had used an aperture of around f/5.6 or taken a focus stack to get some of that foreground in the bottom right sharp. I didn’t use any filters at all, just the lens.”
The Northern Lights alone is an amazing phenomenon to witness, and the moon bow further adds to the magnificence of this image.
