A new interactive website from The Smithsonian is looking to capture the history of rock ‘n’ roll through the eyes of concert-goers. RockandRoll.Si.Edu launched on Dec. 1 and will spend the next year collecting images for a 2017 book.
You can browse the site by music genre and although there are only a few hundred images on the site there is impressive work from photographers such as Scott Booker (manager of the Flaming Lips for over 25 years) and Roberta Bayley, a former door person at CBGBs Punk Magazine‘s chief photographer.
Photographers will retain the copyright for any images submitted, but by adding work to the website authorize the Smithsonian “permission to use it in whole or in part for any educational, promotional or other standard museum purpose, in any media now known or later developed, without compensation to you.”
Check out all the submissions here.
